
The Association held its Parents Day Dinner & Dance celebration on May 22 (Friday) at the Royal Dinner & Dance in Richmond. More than 250 members and their friends attended this full house event. The MCs for the evening were Ms Ivy Chung and Yun Kwong Lee. The Association's President, Peter Chong began by welcoming and thanking all the participants for their support and then reminding both parents and their children to be thankful for their respective gifts in life. On behalf of all the children, he wished all the parents long life and good health. During dinner, the audience was entertained by karaoke singing, line dancing and special performances by members of our Women Group. In addition, many door prizes were given out to the lucky winners. Highlights of the evening was the special presentation to the 3 longest married couples in attendance. They are Mr and Mrs Lee Min Kong (Married for 53 years), Mr and Mrs Yip Wei Soong (50 years) and Mr and Mrs George Wong (50 years). The audience not only applauded and congratulated these golden wedding anniversary couples but also seek advice on the secret of their happy and long marriages. After the presentation of special raffle gifts to the lucky mothers, all mothers were requested to dance by their spouses. Dancing followed after the dinner until past mid-night and everybody had a most enjoyable evening.
The Association held a dinner and dance banquet to celebrate its 38th anniversary and the Chinese New Year on March 6, 2008 at the Floata Seafood Restaurant in Chinatown. The full house event was attended by more than 750 members and friends including some 100 dignitaries from three levels of governments and Chinese community organizations.. The MCs for the evening were Mr. Stephen Chong and Ms. Ivy Chung. The banquet started with the performance of the Unicorn dance, a traditional Hakka custom, by the Association's Athletic Group to welcome the New Year and to bring good fortune. After the singing of the Canadian national anthem, our President, Mr. Peter Chong began by wishing everybody a happy and prosperous New Year and extending his warmest welcome to the attendees. He then introduced the representatives of the three levels of government and the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China and invited them to convey their greetings. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to major donors of the China Szechuan Earthquake Relief Fund and Letters of Appointment for Life-time Honorary Advisors were given to six members of the Board. The Association also presented scholarship awards to elementary, secondary and university students who had excelled academically during the 2007/08 school year. The programs for the evening included singing, dancing, Hakka folk songs, and other performances as well as some 100 lucky and raffle draw prizes for the lucky winners. It is noteworthy that this event was subsequently reported by the major local daily newspapers. After dinner, those who stayed behind danced until midnight and everybody had a very enjoyable evening.
