Chinese New Year & Anniversary Banquet

The Association held a dinner and dance gala on February 17, 2024 at the Floata Seafood Restaurant in Chinatown to celebrate its 53rd Anniversary and the Chinese New Year. Some 420 members and friends including representatives of the Chinese community organizations attended this very popular annual event, the first since the covid pandemic in the Spring of 2020. The master of Ceremony for the evening were Larry Chin and Philip Chong for both the English and Chinese translation respectively. The banquet started with the introduction of a brief history of the Association and an online video presentation of the Unicorn dance, a traditional Hakka custom to welcome the New Year and to bring good fortune. In his welcoming speech, the Association's President, Peter Chong extended his warmest welcome to the attendees and wished them the very best of the Year of the Dragon. He told the audience that he was most impressed by their support of the event and promised that he and the Board would continue to organize more group activities in the future to serve their needs. Then the Chairperson of the Supervisory Committee, Ivy Chung acknowledged and thanked all the prizes sponsors, singers, performers, volunteers and the audience. Programs for the evening included the introduction of honored guests, toast from the Board of Directors, karaoke singing, dancing, live performances and free dinner tickets draws. One of the highlights of the evening was the free and generous dinner tickets draws. More than 60 prizes were drawn ranging from 284 grams beef jerky to $100 value health product (Reichi) with the great majority in $20-25 T&T gift cards. After dinner, floor dancing continued until midnight. Everybody had a great time, enjoying the very entertaining evening and good food. By all accounts and from feedbacks received, this year's event was very well organized and very successful, arguably, one of the best ever held! - Photos
